After being deeply impressed by Pat
Metheny's Pikasso-guitar made by Linda Manzer, Claudio Fritschi
of Switzerland decided to gather up some of his "classical
guitar wrecks" he had around the house.
The wrecks (pieces
of wood and guitar parts) combined with a little skill, fantasy,
a bit of know-how and information from books, led him to build these
creations.
The one with the red background was
the first experiment. It has 38 strings on 4 sections; the original
guitar section with nylon strings, a mandolin section, a harp section
with 12 strings in a pentatonic minor tuning on the end of the body
and a second harp section with 12 strings in a pentatonic major
tuning, crossing under the mandolin and the guitar section over
the soundhole.
All additional parts are in beech wood. The pickup
for the guitar section is a piezo by shadow, all other sections
where picked up with built in transducers also by shadow.
The second work, the one with the blue
background has 34 strings on 4 sections; the original guitar section
with nylon strings, a short bass section, a harp section with 12
strings in a pentatonic minor tuning on the end of the body and
second harp section with 12 strings in a pentatonic major tuning
crossing under the bass and the guitar section over the soundhole. |
